History coming to life

Recently, I was driving by Edgehill in Oxfordshire, and I recalled there was a large battle held there in the 17th century. Now, I really enjoy the rich history in this country, and I was pleased to see that the Sealed Knot were doing a re-enactment of this battle at Kineton.

This group of people are well known for their enthusiasm and attention to detail, and it was a fascinating insight, to how things were done nearly 400 years ago.

With the preliminaries over and done with, the battle commenced, and we had a rolling commentary about the battle, from a very knowledgeable member of the Sealed Knot.

It was really interesting, to learn how the 3 main parts of the armies were utilised. The cavalry, the pikemen, and the musketeers, all had to be used in balance, as each was vulnerable without the other.

The outcome? Well, they ran out of ammunition, so left the field without winning or losing. Except for those who lost their lives of course.

Below, are the rest of the photos taken that day.
